Frequently asked questions
How buying works, how selling works, and what happens to your money at each step.
General
A place to buy and sell hotel bookings their holder can no longer use.
If you can't go, you list your booking and get back part of what you paid. If you're looking for a hotel, you buy a real booking for less. We review every booking, keep the money safe and talk to the hotel about the name change.
Yes. Every booking comes with its proof, and we review it before it's listed.
You pay SecondBook, not the seller, and they don't get paid until a few days after your stay. Our team handles the name change with the hotel, and if it doesn't work out, you get everything back.
It depends on the hotel and the rate.
We review every booking against its proof before it's listed, and our team handles the name change directly with the hotel. If it can't be done in the end, the buyer gets all their money back.
Apartments too. You can list bookings for hotels, apartments, villas, hostels, B&Bs and more.
It doesn't matter where you booked: Booking, Airbnb, Expedia, Agoda, Vrbo, eDreams, Trip.com or directly with the property.
You don't. To buy, your name and email are enough; to sell, your email and phone.
With an account you have your bookings, sales and messages in one place.
With your email, a password and your phone, or in one click with Google or Apple.
If you sign up with email, we'll ask you to confirm it before you log in.
Message us on WhatsApp or by email whenever you like.
If you'd rather call, the phone line is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 20:00 (Madrid time), in Spanish. It's all on the contact page.
Buying
Search by destination and dates, pick the one you like and pay on SecondBook.
From there we take over: we talk to the hotel to put it in your name and message you when it's ready.
No. You pay the booking's price and that's it: no booking fees, no surcharges.
The seller pays our fee, and only if their booking sells.
You pay securely on the site with Stripe.
At checkout you'll see the methods available, such as card.
After you buy, our team gets in touch with the hotel to change the name.
We'll message you when it's done, with everything you need for your arrival.
You get back everything you paid.
The money is still held by SecondBook, so there's no one to chase: we take care of it.
These are non-refundable bookings, so once one is in your name it can't be cancelled or refunded.
If the name change can't be done, though, you get everything back.
Message us on WhatsApp or by email as soon as it happens.
The seller isn't paid until a few days after check-out, so we can look into it before paying them.
Yes. With an account you can message them from the listing.
To protect you both, the chat doesn't let anyone share phone numbers or emails.
Yes, if the seller allows it. You'll then see a price per room and choose how many you want.
Selling
List it for free: tell us the booking details, upload the proof and set your price.
We review it before it goes live. When someone buys it, we talk to the hotel about the name change, and a few days after the stay you get your money.
The booking details (dates, room, board, guest name, booking reference and where you booked), your phone number and the proof: the hotel's or the agency's confirmation, as a PDF or a photo.
We compare the listing with your proof: dates, guests, rooms, room type, board, guest name, confirmation number, platform and original price.
If you change any of those later, the booking goes back to review before it's on sale again.
We email you the reason.
If you can fix it, list it again with the corrected details and we'll review it again.
No. The sale price can never be higher than what you paid for the booking.
Listing is free.
If your booking sells, we keep a fee of 10% of the sale price + VAT, with a minimum of €15 + VAT. It comes out of what you receive; the buyer pays nothing extra.
You pay nothing. Listing is free and we only charge a fee when the booking sells.
Yes, as long as it hasn't sold. You can lower the price or withdraw the booking from your account.
Yes. If you have an account and check-in is getting close without a sale, we email you a reminder in case you want to adjust the price.
We take it off sale and let you know by email. You pay nothing.
We ask for it so we can reach you during the sale. Only our team sees it: it's never shown to buyers.
Payments
Kept safe at SecondBook. The buyer pays through Stripe and we hold the amount.
The seller isn't paid until a few days after check-out. If the name change doesn't work out, the money goes back to the buyer.
A few days after check-out, the sale amount, minus the fee, moves to your SecondBook balance.
From there you request a transfer to your bank whenever you like.
By bank transfer. Add your bank account (IBAN) in your SecondBook account and request the transfer from your balance.
We email you when we send it. After that, depending on your bank, it can take one or two working days to show up in your account.
Yes. Stripe processes the payment, and your card details go straight to them: we never see or store them.
For now, everything is in euros: prices, payments and payouts.
