What to do with a hotel reservation you can’t use?

Can’t use your hotel reservation? Discover what options you have to try to recover your money, even if it’s a non-refundable reservation.
You booked a hotel and, in the end, you can’t travel. A change of plans, an unexpected event or any other circumstance may mean that you have to cancel your stay.
And then the question comes up: how can I avoid losing all the money I paid for my reservation?
Before considering it lost, there are several options worth checking.
1. Check if you can cancel
The first thing to do is check the conditions of your reservation.
If it has free cancellation, you may be able to cancel it within the specified deadline and recover the corresponding amount.
If it is a non-refundable reservation, you normally won’t be able to recover the money by cancelling, but there may still be other alternatives.
2. Check if you can change the dates
Some reservations allow you to change the dates of your stay.
Check the conditions of your reservation or contact the hotel or the platform where you made the booking.
In some cases, you may be able to change the dates by paying a price difference.
